Are you having a bad breath emergency? This is one thing that can really ruin important moments. Especially those moments when you are required to have a conversation with people who are important to you. Whether you are in a board meeting or on a hot date, smelling bad can quickly turn off anyone you talk to and give them a bad impression. What you need is a quick bad breath remedy to tone down your stinky breath.
Most people would use different masking products like breath mints, spray, sugarless gum or a quick rinse with mouth wash. This may provide a quick relief but it is only for a short time. Soon, you will need to use more of these products. That may be okay for some, but what if you didn’t have any of these things with you? What if your meeting or date lasts longer than those temporary remedies?
So what do you do if you find yourself in one of those critical situations?
Emergency Measures for Smelly Breath
- First, rinse your mouth well.
- Next, floss and brush your teeth. No floss? Borrow some.
- If you can’t do that, move on to brushing. If you don’t have a brush and toothpaste, use your finger and baking soda or salt.
Rinse some more.
Then clean your tongue – a coated tongue is a prime location for anaerobic bacteria with their stinky volatile sulfure compounds. Use a spoon. Wipe your tongue with a paper towel.
Eat the Garnishes
If you have it available, chew some parsley (in case you are out to eat and it’s used for plate decoration). Use lemon. Ask a waiter or order some iced tea. If you go the parsley route, be sure you don’t have it stuck in your teeth. Having teeth draped in food won’t impress people any more than bad breath does!
And next time, be prepared. Establish good oral hygiene habits and carry a small toothbrush, floss and toothpaste with you. Also, try not to eat spicy foods, chilies, garlic and onions, or drink coffee and alcohol just before important events with other people. An ounce of prevention is worth it’s weight in gold, which is pretty pricey these days.
Long Term Bad Breath Routines
For a longer term remedies, you need to establish some routines and habits that can at least last you the whole day. Or better yet, have regular oral hygiene habits that prevent bad breath from happening in the first place or at least make it an occasional occurence when you’ve been wining and dining too well or have gotten dehydrated.
Get into the habit of brushing at least twice daily. You’ll get a good thorough brushing if you use a sonic toothbrush. Floss at least once a day; clean your tongue once or twice a day and drink water frequently throughout the day. This last step moistens your mouth and helps wash away food particles which the bacteria in your mouth can turn into stinky sulfur compounds.
Basically, having good oral hygiene can prevent bad breath from happening.
And that is the best bad breath remedy that you could do to ensure you are at your fresh breath best.
